What is the Berkshire Mars Index?

BMI is a stock valuation app that calculates two independent fair-value estimates for every S&P 500 stock. The Buffett model uses Warren Buffett's value-investing framework (Graham Number, DCF, analyst targets). The Mars model adjusts for AI leadership — companies leading in AI receive a premium; laggards receive a discount.

Where does the price data come from?

Stock prices are sourced from Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) and Yahoo Finance. Prices for individual stocks (Markets and Detail screens) use FMP's real-time feed. Prices for all 460 S&P 500 stocks are pre-fetched by our backend server and refreshed every 15 minutes.

How accurate are the valuations?

BMI valuations are for informational and educational purposes only — they are not investment advice. The models are simplifications of complex valuation frameworks and should not be the sole basis for any investment decision. Always do your own research and consult a qualified financial advisor.

How do I reset my custom assumptions?

Tap the ⚙ Assumptions button on the Markets screen to open the sidebar, then tap Reset to Defaults at the bottom of the panel. This restores all discount rates, growth rates, and AI parameters to their original values.

How do I add a stock to my Watchlist?

On any stock card in the S&P 500 tab, tap the bookmark icon on the right side. You can also add stocks from the Detail screen. Your watchlist is saved locally on your device.

Why does a stock show an estimated price instead of a live price?

Our server fetches live prices for all 460 S&P 500 stocks in batches. Due to API rate limits, some stocks may briefly show a sector-average estimate while the server completes its fetch cycle. Prices refresh every 15 minutes. Pull to refresh on the S&P 500 screen to get the latest data.
